The creative industries include advertising, architecture, visual arts, crafts, fashion and textiles, design, performing arts, music, photography, film and video, computer games, radio and TV, writing and publishing, heritage, software/electronic publishing and cultural education.


Employment

There are 32.4 million people employed in the UK, with almost 2 million being employed in the UK’s creative industries. From THECREATIVEINDUSTRIES.CO.UK website: ‘In the wider creative economy, which counts creative occupations in other sectors to roles specifically in the creative industries, the total number of UK jobs is 3.2m or 9.6 per cent of all UK job’

The UK Creative Industries Workforce consists of 33% self-employed and 67% employed.


How much creative industries generate?

The gov.uk website says the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s sectors are now worth £268 billion. The UK Creative industries generate £115.9billion a year and have had a 5.6% increase in value since 2018 (2019 statistics).


Growth of the creative industries

The industry in the UK has had a 5.7% increase in value since 2018.The UK Creative Industries sector has 2.7x job growth of the UK average. According to the GOV.UK website, Britain’s creative industries break the 100 billion barrier: ‘Its value of the creative industries to the UK is up from £94.8 billion in 2016 to £101.5 billion, and has grown at nearly twice the rate of the economy since 2010, according to figures published today by the Department for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport (DCMS).’
