Financial breakdowns (Generational Visuals)

Revenue streams

When my business is in production and I have gained regular customers, I will likely offer loyal clients a retainer so the business is on stand-by for them to use the skills and services whenever needed. This could be for regular music videos/ advertisements for the business. It would also be useful for companies who often have live events and can use the business to film these.

The only other revenue stream would likely be commissions for video productions. Companies would enquire about their ideas and Generational Visuals would produce the video and get paid for this.

Income based on sales/ work produced

I aim for my start-up costs to be between £200 ad £350 for each production, this pricing covers the costs of the production (equipment hire and Premier Pro subscription) and is a lower price than other businesses in the market.

Starting at 1/2 productions a month. £400-£700 a month.

Start-up costs

Hire of equipment to produce show reel/ presentation of work. This is for my marketing/ website of the business. Most affordable equipment hire: £100 a day for camera and audio equipment. I would need to purchase student Premier Pro for the video editing which would be £16.24 for the first month.

Regular outgoings

The most regular outgoing for my business will be the Premier Pro subscription which is £16.24 as I'm a student.

For each production, I will need to hire equipment which is about £100 for a days filming.

Financial Projections for Generation Visuals

Examples of productions with varying costs:

Small production. E.g., 3-minute promotional video

Filming: 1 day

Equipment hire (DV Camera hire London): Camera £75, Audio £25, Lighting £70 = £170

A consideration in hiring equipment is the closest hire companies are based in London, this would make it difficult if I had to travel to and from London to collect this. If this was required, I would have to include costs of travel. (£15.15 train fare)

Promotional videos make it likely that a studio of some kind would be required. Butterfly Studios in Norwich offer studio hire from £10 per hour. 5 Hours= (£50)

In this example, the short production would make it more possible for me to work on it alone. Therefore, there is no staffing costs. Service charge £120

Total cost estimated at £385.15

Medium production. E.g., 15-minute short film

Filming: 5 days

Equipment hire (DV Camera hire London): Camera: £375, Audio: £65, Lighting: £170= £610

Travel to collect equipment: £15.15

Additional camera man= £600

Butterfly Studios: Average of 1 day in studio/ £10 per hour. = £50

Slightly higher service charge for most planning/ storyboarding and editing of production= £150

Total cost estimated at £1425.15

Large production. E.g., 30-minute documentary

Filming: 7 days

Equipment hire: Camera: £525, Audio £80, Lighting £185= £790

Travel to collect equipment: £15.15

Crew hire: £1000

Butterfly Studios: 2 days/ £10 per hour: £100

Service charge: £150

Total cost estimated at £2055.15
