 Analysis Tasks

TASK 1

Looking at the different businesses you have researched and explored(case studies etc) – what have you been most inspired by and why?  How will this influence your own endeavours?  What ideas will you expand on and which ones will you avoid? Explain your reasons.

Out of my case studies, Eye Film inspired me the most due to their local, home-grown backstory. I felt that their business came from an interesting, personal place. Their website includes an ‘About’ section, with information on their founder and roots of the business. This allows the clients to feel closer to the company, with more understanding of their values.

List the 5 key things you have learnt about the creative industry you are developing through your research.

-Video production companies attract a much wider client based by offering a range of video productions (i.e. music videos, corporate videos, promotional videos, event videos)

-Most creative businesses have a small team of employees

-UK Creative Industries Workforce consists of 33% self-employed and 67% employed

-video production companies often rely on regular, loyal clients (such as brands)

-Britain’s creative industries are worth over £100 billion

Which mission/value statements did you find to be most powerful?  Why?  How have any of these influenced your own statements? Which one(s) didn’t you like?  Why?

I feel that TED’s mission statement, ‘Spread ideas.’ Is effective because of how simple it is. Their mission statement can attract anyone as it is a broad mission and summarises their company.

My vision statement was inspired by many other vision statements. I feel the most important effective statements are very aspirational and inspiring. The companies may not achieve their vision, but it should make the company look confident in what they’re doing. Wikipedia’s vision statement of, ‘A world in which every single person is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge’ is inspiring due to a broad description used. ‘All human knowledge’ is inspiring and makes Wikipedia sound impressive.

Looking back at the brand identities of the businesses you have researched – which ones are the most effective and why?  Which branding didn’t you like?  Why? Have any directly influenced your own branding/logos?

For my branding analysis, I researched Eye Film, ART Touches ART and Vidoo. I liked ART Touches ART the least out of the 3 I researched due to a specific style not being recognisable. I feel in Eye Film and Vidoo’s websites/ branding, their style was obvious. This helped me to associate a ‘house style’ with each company. Vidoo’s branding helped me develop my own because of the simple logo and symbols associated with the company. They logo includes a infinity symbol in the brand name. My logo includes an eye design to represent ‘visuals’.
